Genesis 7:7-12
So Noah, with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives, went into the ark because of the waters of the flood. Of clean animals, of animals that are unclean, of birds, and of everything that creeps on the earth, two by two they went into the ark to Noah, male and female, as God had commanded Noah. And it came to pass after seven days that the waters of the flood were on the earth. In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. And the rain was on the earth forty days and forty nights.
So it rained for forty days. Many might see that as the reason for the flood. But it was only part of it. See in verse 11 how the "fountains of the deep were broken up". The waters beneath the ground were forced upward and ruptures happened that added to the massive rains. And all animals (humans included) drown.
Take these rains as the Presence of God. He pours out upon us. When we open to Him, He responds with showers of love.
Then something incredible occurs inside of us and our hearts erupt in response to Him. Then we are flooded with His goodness. Then all our shame, struggles, sin, and the past is drown in His wonder and love.
All humanity except Noah's family became a memory. We are blessed to let that part of our past become a memory as well.
Has that become your choice? To let your past remain only a memory? As long as we fight to hang on to the things God is trying to wash away, it becomes harder to move forward. Harder to leave what we might be guilty of alone. We must cut ties to the past and sail into the new life God intends us to live in.
