The Word Given: The Sons of Lamech
Then another son came, Jubal. He would begin musicians. We use his name now to describe how music can make us feel.
Genesis 4:19-22
Then Lamech took for himself two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah. And Adah bore Jabal. He was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. His brother’s name was Jubal. He was the father of all those who play the harp and flute. And as for Zillah, she also bore Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron. And the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah.
So, six generations from Cain we get Lamech. We don't hear a lot about this man, but he brought forth sons that would truly change the world.
From Lamech came a son, Jabal. He began shepherds. Men who would live in the countryside, a hard life filled with the struggles of the wilderness. And the joys of tending the flocks.
Then another son came, Jubal. He would begin musicians. We use his name now to describe how music can make us feel. Some songs (especially worship and praise music) make us feel jubilant!
Then from his second wife he had Tubal-Cain. He was to become such a great craftsman that he would be an instructor, teaching others the art of working in metals. Truly an innovator.
Three great men in our history that did great things. Despite their grandfather being a marked man due to his sin.
You are not likely to be a murderer. But regardless of your sin, God has a tremendous life planned for you! And your children. And their children. And their…well, you get it!
I enjoyed learning how God used these three men. They probably had no idea how significant their roles would be for future generations. Just doing what God created them to do. Thank you, Matt.
