Matthew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Gods people love peace. We are told that we should pray for leaders so we might have peaceful lives. But what is really peace and how do become peacemakers?
So for this first part of the verse, peacemakers are blessed because they affect the world around them. But peace is not an absence of violence or trouble. It is literally a state of mind that comes as a result of relationship with God. Jesus is the "Prince of Peace". It's literally one of His roles as the Christ. So true peacemakers are God's people.
It finishes that thought in the second part of the verse. True peacemakers are God's children. True peace doesn't ever come until a change of heart happens. That is when God comes into us. The lack of world peace is a lack of God's presence in people.
A leader who perpetuates war through whatever choices and means does so because they do not have peace within them. In the same manner, a neighbor that is always bickering with the guy next door does so because the Prince of Peace is not in them. It doesn’t matter what the level is, the battle or peace is from the same source. Anger of the devil or peace of Holy Spirit.
Are we peacemakers?
