The Word Given: Mobile
God kept Abram moving...
Genesis 12:7-9
Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to the LORD, who had appeared to him. And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD. So Abram journeyed, going on still toward the South.
Despite coming to Shechem, Abram did not fully settle. He and his people might be world changers, but for now they lived in tents.
But Abram moved now with a promise from God. “To your descendants I will give this land.” As people of our time, we know that Abrams people did take possession of the land. But it wasn’t just given to them, they fought for it.
We see the same thing happening today for Israel, but also for us as Christians. God makes many promises to His people, knowing full well that it isn’t going to literally fall in our laps.
We cannot steward properly what we do not have to fight/work for. This principle is true at every level.
Abram honors God for this promise by building an alter for Him. Set up between the city of Bethel (house of God) and Ai (trash heap). Those cities may or may not have been in place already.
But he wasn’t done. The journey continued.
You are not done. Your journey continues...
